Kjaerbye Returns to CSGO

Back in 2021, CS: GO player Markus “Kjaerbye” Kjærbye has announced that he was retiring from competitive CS: GO. The player, who participated in many CS GO tournaments and was considered one of the best players CS GO, wanted to look for new horizons.
However, it seems that he couldn’t stay away from eSports CSGO forever, as he has announced that he is returning to the scene.

Kjaerbye’s Retirement

June 30, 2021, was a sad day for Kjaerbye’s fans. He made a Twitter post thanking CS for the memories and opportunities, along with a picture and a farewell message.
“The time has come for me to say goodbye to gaming as a professional Counter-Strike player,” he said in his post. “It is with a heavy heart I am writing this, but as of right now, I have no longer the hunger and determination it requires to compete at the top level. This game has been a huge part of my life for the past 10 years, and I feel this is the time for me to look for new horizons and opportunities. Future work can be both inside and outside the game. Time will tell.”
Kjaerbye was having issues related to motivation since 2019. And like that wasn’t enough, 2020 marked the start of the pandemic, during which he has to take a leave of absence from North as he was experiencing chest cramps, breathing issues, and abdominal pains.
He came back two months later, but the team didn’t have a place for him anymore. He then went to FaZe for a while before moving to HYENAS. It was his last team before his retirement.
He was feeling very isolated too as the pandemic started, and he couldn’t even meet with his teammates from FaZe. Kjaerbye even said that other professional sports athletes told him to move on, get a new identity and discover what he wishes to do moving forward.

The Return

Even though it seemed like the player’s retirement was permanent due to personal and mental issues he was dealing with, he is returning. He made some significant changes to his life. Now, he exercises daily, which not only made him better physically but also improved his CS: GO gameplay.
“I’m not a completely different person, but I’m much stronger physically and mentally,” Kjaerbye said.
The player has enough time to look at where he went wrong in the past and what he can do to make things better this time.
“I’m not here to make people happy,” Kjaerbye said. “I have found a way where I can play Counter-Strike and be happy, where I can have goals, big ambitions, and dreams. If I end up not performing in a tournament, I will look positively at it. I’ll go back home and use the knowledge I gained to get in better shape. I’ll just get back to work because I love my life and I just want to play Counter-Strike.”
Now, we can only wait and see what CS GO live matches Kjaerbye will be in after his return. Soon, you’ll be able to check the CSGO matches today and see him as part of a team’s roster again.
